I can`t speak for the latest version as I`m currently running 3.0.12f, which has a bug which crashes the plugin when running in an independent window, this is easily worked around by just single clicking the file you want to edit and having inspector edits on instead.
Nonetheless, now that I have started using SI3, I can`t imagine going without it. Before, i was using sublime, as it`s the closest to the osx coda2 experience, but still you have to use an external window and alt-tab all the time. Having the editor inline inside unity
coupled with the very handy code completions, I can`t complain, it`s fantastic. I feel as though my workflow has increased dramatically since using this. Code completion suggestions are very well implemented along with `spellcheck-like` errors which you don`t
need to save before seeing the errors. This makes developing in unity a breeze. I think that the price is rather reasonable, and the developers have loads of ongoing support on their forums. It baffles me that this isn`t already a feature that`s fully integrated straight
into the unity editor, as it seems like a no-brainer. I feel lucky to have found this asset and it should be more well known. Reading the other reviews and noticing the lack of interest in this product, I can`t help but wonder if either I, or they are missing something here
because using Script Inspector 3 has been a total game changer for me at least. I wish to trial it a bit more before going for the full version, but overall very impressed.

Script Inspector 3's power doesn't lie on what it does, it lies on how quick it does things.

It may not be able to replace a powerful IDE such as Visual Studio (especially that VS 2015 Community Edition is free already with great Unity add-ons), but it's a really great tool for quickly and easily changing things on your code. In a click, it opens your script. Compare that to Unity opening an external IDE. If you're using VS, you'll also notice that for every new script you need to reload your project solution which is kinda meh. With SI3 there's no such thing as that.

Other notable features:
- Easily customizable code snippets.
- Really useful code generators.
- Dragging a gameObject from a scene to an SI3 window and from then you can select which script you want to open.
- And alot more useful features.

To be honest, I haven't explored the asset that much and probably haven't unlocked it's "full potential" yet. But I'm already satisfied with the increase in workflow speed that it gave me in an instant. I'll totally use this for small changes in my codes which happens often, then big stuff such as debugging in VS.

I also just wanna say that I'm a guy who's easily distracted, so I'm constantly fighting myself whenever I'm changing from Unity to VS. It also breaks my immersion to work whenever I need to wait for Unity to compile for a long time, or when I need to reload VS because I made a new script in Unity. This just totally solves that. And besides it looks really cool in the editor. Can probably make a non-coder go in awe if they see your editor with an SI3 floating somewhere or embedded on the editor itself.

Ok, here is the thing, are you a windows OS user, then get visual studio 2015 community edition, it is free !!! you wouldn't need this, specially now that unity tools for visual studio is free and the community edition lets you have addons
if you are using mac OS or linux, the mono that comes in with unity should still be better than this asset, specially when it comes to debugging and you want to put break points in the code to stop the running right on the line to inspect what is going on in the code. don't underestimate the power of debugging with break points.
But, none of those two are really good when it comes to shader programming, you won't have any intellisense in visual studio for that. i didn't use mono so i can't comment on that one, maybe this would be the only time you would want to use this asset, although i would suggest getting shader forge and using it because you would make your awesome shader tons faster than writing it yourself, and bug free from the first to last moment of it !!!
